We Made It!

AirGlow was chosen as a world Finalist in the 2022 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition. Our new STEMstrument, the AirGlow, was one of 26 semi-finalists chosen from 16 different countries to compete in this annual event that WIRED Magazine calls an "X-Prize for music.” A panel of estemed judges and GA Tech faculty selected the top 10 to perform in the competition. This futuristic battle of the bands will display the very latest new ideas in musicality, design, and engineering. Voting for the competition is currently underway for the public to help decide which 10 finalists will travel to Georgia Tech to compete for $10,000 in prizes at the final round.

Partners

Cymaspace

Perhaps the most marginalized community in the world of music are those that are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. CymaSpace is a PDX non-profit that facilitates musical performances, workshops, and concerts and focuses on making technologies that translate sound into lights and vibration for non-hearing musicians and audiences.

We’ve partnered with CymaSpace to explore producing technologies that enable translating sound into color, shape, brightness; and sound into vibration.

Cymatics

Cymatics is the translation of sound into other sensations. Synesthesia is a natural phenomenon where human senses are effectively crossed, causing some people to see color when they hear sound, or to taste or smell things when presented with a color.

Volunteers from Cymaspace visited the Stratos Garage to help assemble our very first AirGlow Prototypes.
